Definitely something to consider when writing. Especially during your first draft, avoid "filler" chapters unless they absolutely add substance to the story (builds characters, plot, etc.) then it's probably unnecessary.

Get your readers caring right away Layer on the conflict Make every scene count End each chapter with a hook.

I always try to use normal, safe names because, honestly, how many people to you know with strange and exotic names that are your same race? Most have relatively "normal" names, so that's what I strive to do in character naming.

Parents are going back to baby basics. Classic baby names (up are beating out trendy, flavor-of-the-month names.

I'm thinking of writing a book (I'm just putting down ideas for now) so this is really helpful for picking names for characters!

Not sure what to name your character? Maybe you should go with a classic. The following names have been popular in the U.S. since at least 1880 (when data on baby names was first collected). None of the male names have ever been out of the top 400, and none of the female names have ever been out of the top 500. So, if you’re stumped, simply close your eyes and point.
