Stag by James Morris, my shot of the week.
This deer represents death. This keeps occurring in the town of Norvelt and Jack is very uneasy about it when the story starts out. "I dared to slowly walk over to him and knelt down and put myhand on his firm side. He was breathing harder now and I knew he was dying because there was nothing we could do to help him." shows Jack's acceptance with death at the very end of the book. Approaching and accepting that fate is a sign of growing up.
