Sundance and the Wild Bunch Hit the Union Pacific

"The Sundance Kid and the Wild Bunch robbed the Union Pacific Overland Flyer No. 1 in the early hours of June 2, 1899 near Wilcox, Wyoming. The outlaws used shrewd planning, steely persistence, and dynamite. Lots of dynamite. They first used dynamite to disable a trestle, then the door of the mail car. Likewise, they used a couple of sticks to blow the door of the Express car. Finally, they used several sticks to open the safe and..

Ambush on the Bandit Trail

The farmer had called the trail “las pistas del bandido”. Miguel asked, Does it go the river? Si, Si. How long will it take us to get to the river? With his hand, the man had indicated a low sun, late afternoon. Then he smiled and said something in Spanish but his meaning was clear. We might not get there at all.

The Wild Ones

Amid the torrent of a prairie squall, cowboys try to turn the leaders of a stampeding herd of longhorn cattle. They’ll either turn and control the herd or spend the next day rounding up the scattered remnants. These are untamed creatures not suited for domestic life… and that describes the cattle, the horses, and the men. Half-wild cowboys riding half-wild range horses, trying to herd half-wild cattle. That’s the real Wild West.

The Hunted

We followed the Marshal’s lead and bade our mounts down the ridge. Thank the good Lord for the horses we had that day for they managed the mad descent, stumbling and sliding before a hard drop into the creek at the bottom. There the Marshal had pulled his revolver and started a steady fire that checked the heathens who had waylaid us. This Indian Territory is a beautiful but vile land.

The Death of John Dillinger

Among these gangsters is the great John Dillinger. Great in the fact that he was able to evade the city police for many months until that one night, outside the Theater they shot him down. As he walked out of the theater with the infamous Lady in Red by his side the officials were waiting and took him down the side alley and plummeted him.

The Burro and the Bad Men

Our plan was perfect. Storm the Freight Office when they least expected it and Adios, Wells Fargo! On to Mexico. So, there we were, quietly moving to the door when this burro up and kicks Gonzo, who howled and launched a return kick. That burro staggers back, gathers himself, cocks his head, and.... well, the particulars of what happened next are painful in the retelling, and that's all I'm going to say. But, if I ever get out of here, there will be hell to pay for that damned burro.

The Band Played On

Somewhere, a party’s going on. There’s a gentle ocean breeze passing through the palm trees and good food and drink is plentiful. Folks are having a good time. Then, there’s the music. Wonderful, rhythmic music, resonating across the island. The voices, clear as a china bell or earthy and gritty, blend into a surreal timbre. The instruments pour fourth delicious chords with improvised trails of harmony. Inspired by the music, the revelers jump up to sing along, or dance a jig, or

Storm Chasers

These cowboys know it's time to move the herd as fast as possible with threatening skies looming behind them. They know the storm is about to overtake them and their cattle. You can almost hear the thundering hooves as the frightened herd moves together across the plain. Sheltering man and animal on the open range can be a cowhand's ultimate challenge when nature displays its full fury.
