Lee Marvin left school to enlist in the US Marine Corps as a Private. He was wounded in action in the assault on Mount Tapochau during the Battle of Saipan, during which most of his company were killed.

The cheap weapon used the jet stream over the Pacific to wreak havoc on Canadian and American cities and forests. Over 9,300 were launched between Nov 1944 and April 1945, 300 of which were found as far east as Michigan and as far south as Mexico. A fire balloon ( "balloon bomb"), or Fu-Go, was a weapon launched by Japan during WWII. A hydrogen balloon with a load varying from a 12-kilogram (26 lb) incendiary to one 15 kg (33 lb) antipersonnel bomb four 5 kg (11 lb) incendiary devices attached, they were designed as a cheap weapon intended to make use of the jet stream over the Pacific Ocean wreak havoc on Canadian and US cities, forests, and farmland. Lee Marvin left school and joined the US Marine Corps as a sniper scout. He was wounded in action at the Battle of Saipan during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart and discharged at the rank of Private First Class.

After 65 years . . . a brother and sister separated since the Holocaust were reunited in Israel this week. 78-year-old Binyamin Shilon believed for most of his life that his sister had been murdered by the Nazis, along with the rest of his family in Poland. 73-year-old Shoshana November, Shilon’s sister, had presumed him part of the six million Jews lost in the Holocaust, as well.
