10-in-1 Pro Project™ Mulit-Tool with 4 Screw Bits Carry one tool for many jobs. Scrape paint, spread compound, clean rollers, remove putty, open cracks, set nails with Hammer Head® end for setting popped nails and screws. The Purdy Pipe Painter ($20) tool has five individual mini-rollers mounted onto a spring that's stretched across a steel frame. When the rollers are pressed against a round pipe, column or cylinder, the spring bends and the rollers conform to the shape, neatly applying a smooth coat of paint. The wooden handle isn't fixed to the frame, which allows it to adjust to several different working angles. Cool, huh?
Cutting in corners with a brush can be tricky, often resulting in shadow lines or visible texture differences. The Hyde Corner Roller Kit ($31; item 45820) provides a fast, neat way to paint tight spots where two walls meet, or where a wall abuts a ceiling. In tests, its lambswool cover--the gold standard for paint application--held plenty of paint and left a texture that blended perfectly with the rest of two newly covered walls.
Touching up ceilings, fascia boards, soffits and other overhead areas typically means dragging out a ladder, but not if you own the Extension Brush Holder ($6.30). This simple device screws onto the end of any standard extension pole (or even most broom handles) and features a screw-clamp yoke for holding a paintbrush. Simply slide the paintbrush handle into the yoke and tighten the clamp. Then adjust the yoke to the desired painting angle.
There's no need for a ladder or stepstool when painting ceilings if you use Shur-Line's Twist-N-Reach Pole ($11). This versatile tool is a combination paint roller and extension pole built into one comfortable, compact design. The 18-in.-long roller handle telescopes out to 34 in., allowing anyone of average height to easily paint ceilings up to 9 ft. tall. Twist the rubber-grip handle to unlock the shaft, then extend the pole. Twist back the handle to lock the pole in position.
With its super-long 26-1/2--in. handle, and small-diameter roller cover, the Mini-Koter Roller ($17) can reach into spaces too tight for any other paint roller or paintbrush. This is the perfect tool for painting--or staining--behind immovable objects, such as radiators, cabinets, wall-hung heaters, toilets and freestanding tubs.
