Shade Garden Plants
Living in the Pacific Northwest with large trees provides lots of shady spots to garden in. Since most plants love sun, I am always on the hunt for beautiful…
Shade gardens can be beautiful! This small shady/part sun border in my landscape has over 17 varieties of plants that do great in morning sun, light shade. These are all hardy perennials in the Pac. N.W. Includes heucheras, hostas, fuchsias, brunnera, ferns, astilbes, bleeding hearts, japanese grasses, azaleas, and fleeceflower.
The Mountain Ladyslipper orchid is lovely in bloom, and indistinguishable from other small ground covering plants when dormant. Occasionally found in a small group of two to four flowering stalks, these are more often seen as solitary plants. Once found, visiting them at close to bloom time can be an exciting destination, and awe inspiring to think of the way these incredible flowers have evolved.
