Ina May's Guide to Childbirth/Ina May Gaskin I really love this book ♥ A dear friend gave me this book when I was expecting my first child. I had never even considered a natural birth with no epidural was an option. This book presents powerful research based arguments in favor of going a more natural way. Without reading this book I would have never have had the amazing natural birth experience I had with my firstborn.

The Film "A Birth Story" is a Graphic Tale of Badass Midwifery

Raw, nostalgic, and lovingly-crafted, Sara Lamm and Mary Wigmore’s feature-length documentary, "A Birth Story: Ina May Gaskin and The Farm Midwives" captures the 1970s countercultural zeitgeist of its titular band of self-taught midwives. Grainy footage depicts the early settlers of The Farm, an intentional community in Tennessee, enacting a utopian mission to “be in community, to raise children in another way, and to take care of the planet.”

Ina May Gaskin and the Battle for at-Home Births

"Unmedicated home birth is being chosen by a growing minority of women. Between 2004 and 2009, giving birth at home increased 29 percent. Most of this rise is among white women. Recent pregnancy documentaries like “Pregnant in America,” “Orgasmic Birth” and “The Business of Being Born” — all of which feature Gaskin — present hospital birth as profoundly disempowering to women.
