John Quincy Adams - 6th President of U.S. - son of John Adams, (2nd President). He served as Secretary of State under James Monroe, and is regarded as one of the greatest diplomats in American history. He reportedly had the highest IQ of any American President. He died in 1848 at the age of 81.
Abigail Adams (1744 – 1818) wife of President John Adams and mother of President John Quincy Adams. Abigail was not merely a great woman behind the great men; she actively brought attention to women's issues throughout her husbands political career, was an adviser to her husband, and a diarist who kept invaluable records during the beginning of the US as a nation.
Learned and thoughtful, John Adams was more remarkable as a political philosopher than as a politician. "People and nations are forged in the fires of adversity," he said, doubtless thinking of his own as well as the American experience.
"Peacefield" was home to President John Adams and his wife Abigail from 1787 to 1826, then passed to President John Quincy Adams & wife Louisa Catherine Adams. The home stayed in the Adams' subsequent family until 1946.
