MYANMAR: Venture to the remote northern city in Burma, Myitkyina, capital of the Kachin state. For a long time it has been forbidden to travelers, however, it has recently opened up and its pristine nature and local hill tribe villages are waiting to be discovered. It also serves as a gateway to the Himalayas and far northern towns such as Putao and is a convenient base for visits to the Indawgyi Lake and the floating Swe Mintzu Pagoda.
