I had mooned over an old table in my friends’ basement awhile ago, with barley twist style legs, that had belonged to his grandmother. A couple weeks ago, they showed up at my door with the table! I found this solid wood bookcase in our local thrift store. It is in perfect condition and has the cutest little legs. It has somewhat of an Asian flair to it. I knew I wanted to do something different on the back so I took a small rubber mallet and punched out the back. It was so easy to do. After that I hammered out the rest of the staples. I used an echo friendly white paint for the back. It took several coats, but was definitely worth it. I found this table on marketplace for free, I was originally going to use it in our kitchen, but I found another table that fit better in our "breakfast nook." I didn't know what to do with this table, but I got an idea when my baby kept trying to play with his train tracks in his bedroom (which is all carpet) and it wasn't working too well for him. I have been painting furniture for about 8 years and I always love to challenge myself with new techniques and styles! This time I decided to use some yellow (which I never use for some reason) and blend in other bright colors as well for a festive and funky look! Prep work I started by removing all of the hardware, cleaning thoroughly, and lightly sanding the entire piece. I don't use any kind of primer when painting for a few reasons. This dresser started off in rough shape. It was painted almost completely black and not done well at that. I sanded the entire dresser down to the wood grain, except for the top. I only did a rough sanding on the top because I knew I would be repainting it. I rough sanded the top with an 80 grit sanding block and then a 120 grit sanding block. I have painted many pieces of furniture in my time and I try to keep things exciting and fresh but it's not always easy. I had a pair of French Provincial nightstands in need of a makeover and went in with no plan whatsoever and just decided to have fun and experiment a little with these. I started by giving them a good sanding, especially on the tops where the finish was loose and flaking. Since I sanded down to the raw wood I decided to give the tops a coat of spray shellac to Tops, Shellac, Painting Cabinets
