1953 Ferrari Hydroplane, "Arno Xi." The brainchild of Achille Castoldi (friend of Ferrari Grand Prix drivers Ascari and Villoresi), who sought to break the world water speed record. Built with help from Enzo Ferrari and one of his 12-cylinder, 4500 cc V12 Ferrari engines (the same installed in Ferrari's winning Type 375 Grand Prix car), and twin superchargers for added 502 hp at 6000 rpm. Castoldi set a new world record in October 1953 at 150.19 mph on Lake Iseo. Image by Silvano Maggi.
