The Met Office has issued a second red weather warning, meaning there is a danger to life, as Lancashire and Yorkshire are hit by severe floods. People in Whalley and Ribchester were told to abandon their homes as floodwaters rushed through the streets and Todmorden in West Yorkshire was hit and the waters continued to rise.
Whalley Abbey Gatehouse, England. The two-storey gatehouse is all that remains of 13th century Whalley Abbey. The abbey was founded by the Cistercian order in 1296, and grew to become the second most powerful abbey in Lancashire. The north west gateway and associated walls still stand in a lovely setting beside the River Calder.
