These types of fireplaces, called “kakelugn” in Swedish, are very common in old Swedish apartments, but they are usually quite understated with white tile and small metal doors that open so you can see the fire.

Scandinavian home. The wood burning stove. The wood-framed window-as-door to the built-in curio. The wood storage as a design element. LOVE this room.

Calming neutrals by the style files. Most unusual fireplace! Love especially the ornate patterning at top.

Beautiful old Swedish tiled stove

Shabby chic

Kakelugn Sweden tile stove, would like to see this as a natural gas or electric powered version instead of wood or coal.
