Through a challenge grant from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Lions Clubs International will mobilize US$15 million to support measles campaigns through the Measles Initiative. LCIF is an official partner of the Measles Initiative, a collaborative effort of the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Foundation, UNICEF, American Red Cross and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to reduce the number of measles-related deaths.

A map that shows outbreaks of various diseases over the last three years, including measles, has been created by the Council on Foreign Relations. In there have been measles outbreaks on every continent.
Just last year, Lions and LCIF, with a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and support from ministries of health and other Measles Initiative partners, provided immunizations for more than 41 million children in Ethiopia, Madagascar, Mali and Nigeria.
