Katsura Tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum) One of my all time favorites.

Seasonal leaf color variation on the Katsura Tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum). One of my special, lesser known garden favorites!

Katsura Tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum) Z4, 30-50' x 20-30' Heart shaped leaves emerge reddish purple to blue green in summer. Leaves turn gold apricot in fall and give spicy cinnamon/brown sugar scent. Prefer moist, well drained site. Medium to fast growth. Winter interest. Full sun (H, G)

Cercidiphyllum japonicum, Katsura: The Caramel Tree. Fragrant and yellowy in the fall.

Rhus typhina Tigereye Bailtiger (Tiger eyes sumac, Staghorn sumac, Velvet sumac) Zones 3-8; Upright, rounded about 6' tall & wide. Very eye catching foliage. Emerges chartreuse and turns shades of yellow/scarlet/orange in fall. It can be invasive. Likes moist but well drained, moderately fertile soil.

Rhus typhina 'Tiger Eyes' - NATIVE, dwarf version that grows only high and wide, blooms in July, showy fall fruit and color, full sun to part shade
