Little girls and their dollhouses.....
I collect vintage dollhouses, not the great antique dollhouses and furniture shown by Louise on Grandmas Attic - Toys and Treasures or some of Rebecca's wonderful old houses on Rebecca's Collections . My dollhouses are the dollhouses of my youth (1940's and 50's) and a few from the 1930's...and for good measure, I also have some from my daughter's youth, the 1970-80's. I do, however, have a fascination for vintage photographs of antique and vintage dollhouses found in books or on the…
Take Another Look at Mallett
So, day one of last week's ice storm was spent touring a neighbor's apartment. (See Wednesday's blog post.) Day two involved spending time with some Mallett catalogues, which I had been saving to read on a rainy day. The rain never came, but the ice and snow certainly did. I have long been familiar with Mallett's reputation as a leading antiques purveyor, but what I did not realize until recently is that Mallett deals in pieces of more recent vintage, too. Take, for example, the François…
Racketty-Packetty House
Are you wondering why Frances Hodgson Burnett’s name sounds familiar? She wrote ‘The Secret Garden’, ‘A Little Princess’ (Quite possibly one of my favorite children’s books of all time.) and ‘Little Lord Fauntleroy’. She’s AMAZING. (Note: If you ever get new copies of the ‘The Secret Garden’ or ‘A Little Princess’ – you must find the versions that are illustrated by Tasha Tudor. They are enchanting and well . . . you just have to get those versions because otherwise I’ll be sad.) I think…

1860'S Christian Hacker dollhouse
this rare circa 1860's dollhouse was made by Christian Hacker of nuremburg, Germany. It is the only known example in existance with the unusual recessed third floor and flower pots on the balconies. This house is a precursor to the later mansard style dollhouses made by Hacker in the 1880's up to the early 1900's. the later houses have fewer details. this house came to me fully furnished and with some provenance. It will be featured in a reference book on Christian Hacker dollhouses later…

These are bits and pieces I have gleaned from many sources over the years. For some of you they may answer questions and for others they may lead to asking questions. If you have any information or stories or photos concerning these or similar items please share & if possible I will add them here…
