TJ. Glycolysis (from glycose, an older term for glucose + -lysis degradation) is the metabolic pathway that converts glucose C6H12O6, into pyruvate, CH3COCOO− + H+.

Glycolysis is when a glucose carbon molecules) splits into 2 pyruvate carbon molecule. It is an oxidation reaction and results in 2 ATP, and 2 pyruvate. Note: this figure shows slow glycolysis.
