Ballgown, Worth, ca. 1885-95. China silk, embroidered lace, peau de soie ribbon, satin, sequins, taffeta. Two pieces. Heavy ivory china silk with sewn sequins and floral embroidery. Embroidered stems caught in trim of gathered satin (same as on bodice). Gathered flounce of ivory figured lace. Slight bustle. Lined in cream-colored taffeta. Inner flounce of peau de soie, called "Balayeuse." Bodice laces up back. Sleeves split w/insert of ivory-colored China silk. Oakland Museum
