Byzantine & Christian Museum. The polychrome, woven band was part of the decoration on a chiton. Usually a linen chiton had bands sewn in a vertical arrangement on front and back as well as towards the ends of the sleeves.
The date of the construction is unknown, but thought to be between the 13th to 16th centuries. This is a bag 11 x 8.5 cm with silk applied patchwork embroidery in red, white, blue, green and yellow...
