Carl Brashear – deep sea diver. He was the first African American to become a master diver for the U.S. Navy. He was also the first Navy diver to return to full duty as an amputee. In 1966 he was assigned to recover a hydrogen bomb that fell into the sea off the coast of Spain after two US Air Force planes collided. As a result, his leg was injured and later amputated. His life was made into a movie in 2000 titled “Men of Honor” starring Cuba Gooding Jr.
