Oh, my: lovely, lovely, lovely! I answered the door and it was the 1850s calling! (This is not of the time, but I like it.)

I luv the sheer overblouse this young lady from the 1840s is wearing, but I don't know what it properly should be called. It is not a bodice, a waist, a pelerine, a berthe. I don't know, but if I had it, I'd wear it. If you look closely you will see she is wearing a chemisette under her bodice, and, of course, a ring on her forefinger.

Great ambrotype portrait of a pensive young woman

Oxidation on either side, this strangely seems like an asset rather than a hindrance. Very good contrast.

Different style dresses and different personalities, but resembling each other greatly! I venture the three on the right front are sisters, emphasizing their special relationship by linking. Ca. 1850

These vintage photos are tintypes and daguerreotypes taken between 1840s to 1860s. Of course they came in black and white but someone took it upon himself to hand-tint the photos, and the result is incredible. Take a look…

A handsome couple from the 1850s who suffer from an overly enthusiastic application of blush to their cheeks. Still, she is very attractive, and he is quite dapper. The small smudge of hair under his lower lip is called a "soul patch".

Early ambrotype of a cloaked lady and dog - Possibly a mourning image? Sixth-plate ambrotype. The mat is very thin metal supported by cardboard. Full case with broken hinge. The image is backed with black velvet. It has a distinct feel to me as having been copied from an earlier image possibly a daguerreotype.
