Sidesaddle riding boots; late 1880's; for a girl about 8 years old. Wear on both sides of both boots indicates she rode a reversible sidesaddle (girls rode both sides because to avoid a crooked spine). These boots would have been very expensive in their day; an advertisement from the January 26, 1901 'The Queen' Ladies Newspaper listed them for 46 shillings. They are made out of patent leather (now all crazed) and have a 1" Baby Louis kidney shaped heel.
