Vivandières (Cantinières) français, 1850-1870. Women who officially served w/ their husbands in the armed combat forces from the 18th century onwards. They weren't soldiers, but vendors of food & drink to their regiment to complement Army rations. Although the cantinière is popularly associated with the French army, equivalents are found in the armies of other countries, such as Spain, Belgium & Italy.
