Polly Jackson, a conductor on the Underground Railroad in America. Known for having warded/fought off slave catchers with a kettle of hot water and a butcher knife. Jackson was born a slave. Joined a community of free blacks in the settlement of Africa, Ohio, a free and predominantly African-American community like Berlin Crossroads. Her name is listed on a local monument dedicated to her and others who risked their lives to help free the enslaved. 80 odd years of age when she died in 1899.
