My favorite art! One of the "Meninos de Açucar" or "Crianças de Açúcar" - by Vik Muniz from Brazil. This series depicts children of workers cane plantations in the Caribbean, showing the paradox of sugar sweetness with the bitterness of their lives.
Jackie O (from Pictures of Diamonds), 2005 chromogenic print 37 x 30 in.) This work is artist's proof 3 from an edition of 10 plus 5 artist's proofs. This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Galeria Fortes Vilaça.
Vik Muniz. Jacinthe Loves Orange Juice (part of the Sugar Children series). 1996. Gelatin silver print. 33.7 x 26.7 cm. The Sugar Children series consists of portraits of the children of sugar plantation works, using white sugar on black paper. They're so moving because the viewer approaches the picture with a certain sense of the hardship of plantation workers' lives, but walks away with an encounter with a real child, in all her unique beauty.
