One such visit led to the dismissal and arrest of Nicolas Fouquet, minister of finance. The King built Versailles with Fouquet's architect and painter. Every chateau had a chamber (or in the case of Vaux-le-Vicomte, an entire wing) for the King, should he visit. This bedroom, designed for Louis XIV, was never used.
