Rainy Day Boredom Buster: DIY Story in a Bag

We are starting to pull out some old standby activities for the upcoming stretch of indoor activities we will inevitably need. While giving our son’s closet a much needed overhaul, we repurposed some of those “treasures” that needed a new reason for being by making a few Story Bags.OK, so maybe the top photo doesn’t look like much of a transformation but after dredging through the heap of tiny toy-thingys we were able to make much better use of many of the items.

Friday Journals--kids write a note on Friday to their parents telling what they learned that week. The parents write a short response back to their child, and the child brings the notebook back Monday. Each parent response earns a sticker for the cover. Love it--a great way to practice letter writing, and to get parents involved. Helps the children ingrain what has been taught into their memory too.

17 More Days and I will be at the I Teach K conference in Las Vegas. There are 14 of my family and friends going to Vegas that week. My bestie friend and I will be attending the conference on Tuesday and Thursday. It was so hard to choose 2 days. I wish I could go all 4 days! Remaining lettersStudents can choose to write more nouns, verbs, or adjectives. Love this for a grammar review at the beginning of the year!

A NO PREP art/language activity teachers can use any time during the year. All you need is paper! Use this project to transition back after winter or spring break. This activity can also work as a back to school "get to know you" project or a fun way to review parts of speech in grades 2-5!
