Poland China The Poland China is unbeatable among various breeds of swine for the characteristic of maximum weight at any given age. The Poland Chinas are excellent feeders and they gain readily under conditions of good care and management. They are hogs that are very quiet in their dispositions and are rugged in their constitutions. The breed is known for having very substantial bone and for being sound in its feet and legs.

The Middle White Pig breed was recognised as a breed in 1852 at the Keighley Agricultural Show in West Yorkshire where Joseph Tuley exhibited several of his Large White sows along with others.The judges could not agree since some were not considered sufficiently large for the "Large Breed" class, nor eligible for the "Small Breed" class a committee was summoned to avoid being disquaified. The judges decided to provide a third class and to call it the “Middle Breed”.

The Bentheim Black Pied pig originated in Bentheim, Germany in the early 20th century when local breeds were crossed with Berkshire pigs and Cornwalls pigs.
Meishan The breeds imported from China are slow growing and fat, but have a very good taste. They are considered to be resistant to some diseases and are able to consume large amounts of roughage. Meishan pigs are well fed and managed, being fed farm by-products and water plants, as well as concentrates. The Meishan breed is known for its wrinkled face and skin.

Kunekunes are a small breed that usually weighs from 90-120 pounds when fully grown. They have a round body, a short up-turned snout and a curly tail. Some have a wattle (a fleshy growth hanging from the neck). The pigs can be black, white, ginger (red), brown or gold tipped, and their coats can be spotted, striped, marbled, solid, curly, smooth, rough, long or short.

Kunekune pigs are the only breed known to fatten on grass, with little to nothing needed in the way of supplementation. Their wide head, dished face, and short, upturned snout speak to their ability and tendency to graze rather than root. Their meat has a high proportion of beneficial fats, similar to mangalitsas, and is well-marbled, succulent, and tasty. Kunekune means “fat and round” or "plump" in the Māori language.
