Khokhloma village was never the production center of the Khokhloma painting, but it was a place for brisk trade in ready-made products. It was in this village, which was on the crossroads of water and land trade routes, as early as in the 17th century, the goods of the master from the neighboring villages: Laskov, Murashkina, Bolshie and Malye Bezdely, Semin, Novopokrovsky, and a small "Semenovsky village" - now the city of Semenov.
