Cash Transfers Help Ebola Survivors Make a Full Recovery

The outbreak of the Ebola virus in West Africa has become one of the largest global public health crises in recent history, with over 27,000 cases and 11,000 lives lost in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, with a devastating impact on individuals, families and communities.  WFP has been working on the frontline since the beginning of the outbreak, providing food to patients and survivors, and vital logistics support to the humanitarian community.

Gospel singer Amilia Wesseh, 36, is a mother of four. Along with one of her daughters, she fell sick to Ebola in September. Both survived the virus after treatment, but she lost all her belongings due to Ebola. "When I was in the treatment centre, all of our belongings were burned in order to get rid of the virus. I lost everything. The only clothes I had were those on my back, and I had to start from scratch." (9 July 2015)
