Gracie on Instagram: "A product of the majesty of trial and the tortures of error ✨ I thank my lucky stars every day for each one of you who inspires, comments, encourages and supports my creative endeavours. Until connecting with this community, I never truly felt confident in exploring and embracing my creativity, so I have you to thank for all that I have learned. This scuba bloom dress was a labour of love. I have been working on perfecting the foundation garment pattern, a simple princess seamed and boned dress for pizazz to be built on and look forward to one day seeing how you make it your own! The flowers were a true exploration of creativity. If you want to try something similar, I used a tight rolled hem for the edges paired with the elongated top stitching. A walking foot makes sewing scuba a dream. My rough time calculation for this frock is 30 hours. Partially including some of the drafting. Most of the time went into the petals. Cutting & stitching, playing with placement and attaching. Oh & lol sorry to the 90+% who voted the pink platforms. As my mate Yen said, the pink were too predictable, & I think we all know if I’m here to be different. Also, it was raining and cold & there was no chance I was covering this number with a coat! Are you still team pink platforms 🩰 or have I convinced you the boot 👢 was the way to go? #handsewn #memade #millenialsewing #moulage #draping #sewingissexy #melbournefashion #fashionweek #paypalmff #sewingtutorial #diydress #dressform #couturedress #customdress #indiesewing"
Alexandria on Instagram: "💚the wedding guest dress💚⠀ ⠀ My #V1833 dress turned out beautifully, but it was a journey to get the fit right.⠀ ⠀ I cut a size 6, which indicated a 33” bust, but when I was finally able to try it on (long after a lining was attached), the bodice was huge. (See my highlight.) I had to take out wedges of 2.5” on each side, deconstructing and reconstructing the bodice in the process, which took forever. But once that was done, it was mostly smoother sailing.⠀ ⠀ I also redrafted the waistband to be curved to accommodate the bodice being about 26” at the hem and the skirt around 28”. Somehow this worked & everything is snug without being too tight. I skipped a lining for the skirt because I didn’t need the extra pouf or opacity.⠀ ⠀ The fabric is deadstock viscose crinkle cloque from @newcrafthouse — I didn’t have any major issues working with this and it’s got the right amount of drape vs stiffness for the pattern.⠀ ⠀ I probably wouldn’t recommend this pattern unless you’re willing to toile and set aside the time for adjusting the fit. The sewing itself is straightforward, but I was really caught off guard by the sizing issues I encountered! I’m happy at how everything turned out but this was a stressful one so proceed with caution."
